Information on the 2024 summer training opportunities

Our Vision for Summer 2024

CTCs offers cadets a more in-depth study and experience in the area in which they are selected to participate. Summer camps, as cadets fondly call them, are located on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, the Rocky Mountains and everywhere in between. Some CTCs involve all three elements (Sea, Army and Air Cadets) learning and working together in one location. It is the chance to meet friends for life during an experience they will never forget!

Cadets are not guaranteed a spot on a summer training course, and cadets are selected to attend summer training based on their attendance, behaviour, and other attributes that they’ve demonstrated throughout the cadet training year.

For many cadets, participating in summer training is the highlight of their year. The many diverse training opportunities offered during the summer months, including the Cadet Training Centre (CTC) Courses, the Technology and Digital Learning Centre (TDLC), and the National Cadet Advisory Council (NCAC) are the perfect occasion to make friends for life during experiences youth will never forget.

Please review the information below to make your selections for summer training! Submit your applications using the Microsoft Forms Link provided below & found on website page "Summer Training" as soon as possible, respecting the deadlines.

Cadet Summer Training Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Step 1: Learn about your summer training options

There are four types of summer training options available to cadets. Consult the information in the tabs below and link to “Summer Training Course Descriptions / Info” to learn more about what is available to you this summer!

  • Cadets who’ve completed the Red Star training level (year 2) and or a cadet who registered in Cadets as a late joiner at 13 years old, but placed in Year 2 if they turn 14 years old before 1 September of the next TY are eligible to apply to 2 week Cadet Training Centre Courses.

  • Cadets who are enrolled in the Silver Star training level (third year) and are 14 years old and above are eligible to attend a cadet summer training course at a Cadet Training Centre (CTC). CTCs are cadet summer training facilities that are located throughout Canada at Canadian Armed Forces bases. Cadets can attend training in a wide variety of subjects: expedition, music, military drill, leadership, fitness and more! These courses prepare cadets to act as leaders back at the Corps.

Instructor level Courses are 4 weeks in length. Some courses are entirely online, while some have a distance-learning portion that precedes the in-person portion (called 'hybrid' courses).

Travel, accommodation and meals are all provided by the Canadian Armed Forces. Cadets will also be provided a modest training allowance which covers personal expenses while at the CTC (e.g., toiletries, small snacks, etc.).

  • Cadets who are aged 16 years or older before the start of summer training can apply to work as a staff cadet or apply for advanced Courses. Staff cadets are the NCOs of the Cadet Training Centre (CTC), and take active roles throughout the areas of training or training support. They works in a variety of different positions, which are appointed following a week-long training period at the start of the summer. Staff cadets can also work at the local-area CAPs. These are excellent opportunities to develop leadership skills in an environment supported by military staff.

Cadets can apply to 'staff' at CTCs in Ontario and (when available) elsewhere in Canada. Travel, accommodation and meals are all provided to staff cadets. Staff cadets are paid, work in shifts and receive time off.

  • In response to feedback from Summer 2023, this year we are offering dynamic and critical eLearning courses to cadets from across the country through the TDLC.

All courses are delivered through a combination of engaging online self-led asynchronous and facilitator-led synchronous activities. Cadets need access to their Cadet365 Accounts this summer for eLearning courses.

Training delivered through the TDLC occurs during weekdays and takes approximately 4 hours per day. Most of the schedule is flexible to allow a strong course/life balance for cadets.

Step 2: Browse the available course serials & dates

Our Corps has been assigned a number of course "serials". Course serials are the individual course sessions which are offered through the summer. Browse the following PDF document to see which dates these courses are offered, and make a note of which ones you are interested in. Be sure to review the descriptions for these courses above.

Note that courses are offered across the country. Transportation will be provided free of charge for all cadets attending a course at a cadet training centre, even if it is across the country!
